The sustainability best practices guide for small and medium scale tourism operators in Sri Lanka was created by Nordic Sustainability, in collaboration with local stakeholders from the local tourism industry. A synthesis of best practices within the local tourism sector; the Guide aims to provide practical and solution oriented guidance towards sustainable management and operations.
With Sri Lanka experiencing a boom in the tourism sector over the last five years or so, many small and medium scale tourism operators have popped up around the island. While recognizing that tourism supplies local communities with vital economic stimulation it must be noted that tourism if unregulated can degrade ecosystems.
With the promotion of responsible tourism being one of the LEF’s areas of interest, the sustainability best practices guide for small & medium scale tourism operators became the first responsible tourism grant awarded.
