Sustainability Best Practices Guide for Small & Medium Scale Tourism Stakeholders in Sri Lanka

awarded

Created by Nordic Sustainability in collaboration with stakeholders from the local tourism industry, the ‘Sustainability Best Practices Guide for Small & Medium Scale Tourism Stakeholders’ is a synthesis of best practices with the local tourism industry. The Guide aims to provide practical solutions and solution oriented guidance towards sustainable management and operations.

With Sri Lanka experiencing a boom in the tourism sector over the last five years or so, many small and medium scale tourism operators have popped up around the island; many of which have struggled over the last two years given the effects of the Easter Bombings and the prevailing COVI9 pandemic.

Recognizing the need to provide this sector with the necessary tools to operate sustainably, given the current circumstances, we have teamed up with the Sri Lanka Tourism Alliance (SLTA) to conduct a series of workshops in tourism high density zones. The SLTA will assist with dissemination of this Guide through their existing local networks, thereby making this resource available to as many tourism stakeholders as possible.

With the promotion of responsible tourism being one of the LEF’s areas of interest, the sustainability best practices guide for small & medium scale tourism operators became the first responsible tourism grant awarded.
